Below we explain why we value tithing:
God’s Great Abundance
The Bible reveals that our Father wants to share His great abundance with His children: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. (John 10:10)” Through the Bible, He gives us wisdom for living life abundantly, which we define according to 2 Cor 9:8: “We will always have everything we need and plenty left over to share/give.”
Biblical Wisdom to Living Abundantly
It is more blessed to give than receive—Acts 20:35
Give and it will be given—Luke 6:38
Sow big, reap big—2 Corinthians 9:6
Where your treasure is, your heart is—Matthew 6:21
Under grace, we can choose to live “according to the abundance of His riches” (Phil 4:19), or we can choose to live “according to the ways of the world.”
The Wisdom of Tithing
The word “tithe” is derived from the Hebrew word for one tenth. The biblical concept of tithing is found in Malachi 3:10: “’…Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in My house, and test Me now in this,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘if I will not open for you the windows of Heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” Additionally, Proverbs 3:9-10 says, “Honor the Lord with your wealth, the first fruits of your crops, and then your barns will be filled to overflowing.” It’s simple wisdom: bring God your first 10%, which opens the door to God’s plan for financial blessing/provision.
We apply this principle to all increase in our lives: salaries, gifts, inheritances, bonuses, wealth transfers, etc. God has provided the wisdom of tithing for our benefit. It’s a basic wisdom principle that the Lord has used to finance His Kingdom through all generations. If we receive this revelation in our hearts and live it out by faith, we can walk in abundance beyond the ordinary.
